Thoughts on Finishing my First Year at Wellesley

One year ago today, I chose Wellesley. It’s been one year of getting used to being in a different country, being in charge of my body and what it does, and just learning about myself. It has not been easy, and I’d be lying if I said it was fun.

  1. You don’t need to like your roommate to sleep in the same room. I think I spoke less than a paragraph worth of word to my roommate and we remained respectful to each other. There was no stealing of stuff, no intentionally interrupted sleep, no badmouthing to other students. Was it fun? No. But we made it.
  2. You will not likely talk to your professors after the class is over.
  3. Getting an A at Wellesley is hard.
  4. Being black, overweight and a prude makes getting a boyfriend hard. Like really hard.
